Danish clothing companies are world-class when it comes to being close to the users. And this flair can place the Danish fashion industry among the very best in the world. FORA, one of the country’s most prominent news agencies, has analysed its way to this conclusion, writes the weekly newsletter Mandag Morgen. According to the analysis, Danish clothing companies possess the potential to reach the level of New York, Milan, Paris and London. However, the Danish fashion industry suffers from the fact that the focus is on the creative rather than on business. And the business side is quite decisive for the industry’s continued development. Last year, Danish fashion exports totalled approximately two billion euro and this figure can grow considerably if the clothing companies become better at systematising so-called user-skilled innovation.

Diane Von Frustenberg 's fall 2008 collection was based on a foreign affair. "It's a little Marlena Deitrick-inspired and our woman, she starts in Berlin and you don't know if she's a singer or if she's a femme fatale or a spy," explained Von Furstenberg. "And then she escapes to Shangai to end up in New York. So that's kind of, that's the inspiration of the colors and the prints and all of that. But at the end, it's all about the adventureous side of a woman."
