The Company's History

Twenty-five years ago, many things were very different then we find them today. That, of course, doesn't mean changes are bad and that once-beloved philosophies were totally replaced or even that the foods we loved don't exist anymore. Much of the time we are just experiencing growth and evolvement. This is the path well-chosen by Westbrae Natural, Inc. Westbrae has a proud history that began over a quarter-century ago in Berkeley, California with its brand Westbrae Natural Foods.

The Westbrae founders were students who, in the spirit of the day, converted a cleaners into a natural and organic food center. They made natural granolas to sell to both customers and other stores; then business expanded to include natural peanut butter, whole-grain breads, as well as organic vegetables and organic
fruits from family farms in the Santa Cruz Mountains.Today,

the product line has grown substantially. It includes soups, tahinis, unique products made in Japan, cookies, soy beverages..and more!

Sister brand, Little Bear Organic Foods®, is another example of growth and change. From its beginnings in 1986, Little Bear has grown to become one of the premier purveyors of organic and natural foods in the country. Dedicated to providing quality, nutritious natural foods, Little Bear, like Westbrae, has always supported farmers who employ the techniques of self-sufficient, sustainable, organic, agricultural farming practice. Currently a leader in the healthy snack food category, Little Bear Organic Foods has received numerous awards for tortilla chips, popcorns, and many
other items.

So began the proud tradition of both companies, now united as the one source for outstanding organic,

natural foods.Little Bear Organic Foods and Westbrae Natural Foods are wholly owned subsidiaries of Westbrae Natural, Inc., committed to being involved in an industry that has made its products available, and that has supported the growth of organic foods and organic farming.

The company vision has never changed; it has its basis in Nobel Prize winner Dr. Alex Carrel's statement that "t;soil is the basis for all human life.
All life every plant, animal and human being is healthy to the degree that the earth itself is healthy." Using organic ingredients whenever possibleand developing the superior quality of each of their products, depends on health soil. The Company believes we should treat the earth as the precious gift it is and stop treating our soil like dirt by replenishing the nutrients of the soil, avoiding the use of toxic chemicals and rotating crops.
